Psychometric Testing

Above all. It is necessary for a person to have a true self estimate, for we commonly think we can do more than we really can.

A few years ago I was mapping development for a senior leadership team who were less than effective. I presented the seven parts of building an effective team and we were focusing on one of those, Self Awareness. I explained the three components we would explore…

  1. Personal awareness and impact on others
  2. Understanding other’s preferences
  3. Ability and willingness to change and adapt

The senior leader responded …. “It’s okay Margie, we have done self awareness a few years ago so we don’t need to worry about that anymore”. He thought and treated the concept of self awareness and growth like a 101 course. Something to complete and finish and move on from.

Heraclitus called self-deception an awful disease and eyesight a lying sense

Self Awareness is the ability to objectively evaluate the self and to question our instincts, patterns and assumptions. The ability to trust our own assessment of ourselves requires maturity and habitual critical self reflection. Being self aware gives us a choice. A choice to adapt our behaviour according to the situation we find ourselves in. It gives us the opportunity to choose what will serve us and others well. Self Awareness can provide the platform for considering our impact on others and allow for better group dynamics.

There is not one person on earth who would NOT benefit from increased self awareness and the opportunity for growth, even if they “did that last year”. How we gain self awareness has been a question asked since the great philosophers over two thousand years ago. Today there is more information and more opportunity than ever before to access the very growth in this area that will propel you to success. The courage to shed the ‘fear of feedback’ and embrace and understand the practice of self awareness allows you to curate the best version of yourself by participating in assessments, psychometrics, feedback, curious discussions and asking yourself at the end of everyday:

  • Was I the best version of myself?
  • What might I have done differently today?
  • What will I protect as positive characteristics to build on?

Remember self awareness helps you make good choices.
